Role overview
A Welding Inspector is required to check welding and fabrication work on a project or in a fabrication yard. The role covers procedures, welder records, fit-up, visual inspection and the coordination of testing. AED 4,500 to 8,500 a month, indicative.
Experience requirement. Candidates must have at least 5 years of welding inspection experience, with CSWIP 3.1 or AWS CWI certification.
Key responsibilities
- Review welding procedure specifications and procedure qualification records
- Check welder qualification records and make sure welders work only within their range
- Check material, consumables and their storage before welding starts
- Inspect fit-up, root gap, alignment and cleanliness before welding
- Monitor pre-heat, interpass temperature and welding parameters
- Carry out visual inspection of welds using gauges and a torch
- Witness welder qualification tests and mark the test coupons
- Coordinate non-destructive testing (NDT): radiography, ultrasonic, magnetic particle and dye penetrant
- Review radiographic films and test reports with the NDT contractor
- Raise non-conformance reports and follow up repairs until closed
Requirements
- At least 5 years of welding inspection experience on fabrication, piping or structural work
- CSWIP 3.1 or AWS CWI certification is required
- Good knowledge of codes such as ASME, AWS D1.1 or EN ISO standards used on the project
- Knowledge of welding processes, defects and acceptance criteria
- Able to read fabrication drawings, isometrics and welding symbols
- Good written English for reports
- Hot work safety awareness: permits, fire watch, fume control and confined-space rules
- Valid passport
- Medically fit for overseas employment

You make sure the welding on the job meets the code, the drawing and the welding procedure specification (WPS). You work with welders, foremen and the QA/QC (quality assurance and quality control) team, and you decide whether a joint is accepted or rejected. The employer expects accurate records, firm decisions and clear reports.

You are a certified inspector who is firm, fair and accurate. You can explain a rejection to a welder in plain words and write it clearly in a report. You keep your records complete.

Salary & benefits
