Role overview

A Welding Foreman is required to run a crew of welders, fitters and helpers on a fabrication shop floor or a pipe and structural site. The foreman is the link between the supervisor, the drawings and the welders. AED 4,000 to 8,000 a month, indicative.

Key responsibilities

  • Run a crew of welders, fitters and helpers on fabrication or pipe work
  • Allocate work to each welder according to skill and welder qualification
  • Check fit-up, root gap, alignment and tack welds before welding starts
  • Check weld quality and send defects back for repair
  • Control welding consumables: issue electrodes and wire, and keep low-hydrogen electrodes dry
  • Hold toolbox talks on hot work, fire watch, fumes and working at height
  • Make sure hot work permits are in place before work starts
  • Keep welder identity and joint numbers recorded on the crew log
  • Work with the inspector on hold points and radiography schedules
  • Track daily progress against the plan and report delays

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of welding experience, with crew leadership
  • Strong knowledge of MIG, TIG and ARC welding, and of pipe or structural work
  • ITI Welder or an equivalent trade certificate is preferred. Previous welder qualification test records are an advantage
  • You will sit a practical welding test in the process and position the employer needs before final selection
  • Able to read fabrication drawings, isometrics and welding procedure specifications (WPS)
  • Hot work safety awareness: permits, fire watch, fume control and confined-space rules
  • Good English or Hindi to brief the crew and write short reports
  • Valid passport
  • Medically fit for overseas employment

About the work

You lead by example, welding or demonstrating when needed, and you answer for the quality and output of your crew. Each day starts with a toolbox talk and the allocation of work, and ends with a progress report. The employer expects safe work, welds that pass inspection and careful control of consumables.

Final salary depends on your experience, skills, communication and interview performance, and on the employer's selection.
