Role overview

An Aluminium Welder is required for marine fit-out, transport equipment and architectural fabrication. The work is TIG and MIG welding on aluminium sheet, plate and extrusions. AED 1,800 to 3,200 a month, indicative.

Key responsibilities

  • Weld aluminium sheet, plate, tube and extrusions using TIG and MIG
  • Weld alloys such as 5083, 5052 and 6061 as the job specifies
  • Use AC TIG with the right tungsten, balance setting and filler rod
  • Use spool guns or push-pull MIG guns for soft aluminium wire
  • Remove the oxide layer with a stainless brush kept for aluminium only
  • Clean joints with solvent to prevent porosity
  • Plan weld sequence, tack spacing and clamping to control distortion
  • Weld boat hull panels, deck fittings, tanks and handrails
  • Weld truck bodies, trailers and transport equipment frames
  • Weld architectural frames, cladding supports and window or door sections

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of aluminium welding experience
  • Experience with both TIG and MIG on aluminium
  • ITI Welder or an equivalent trade certificate is preferred. Previous welder qualification test records are an advantage
  • You will sit a practical welding test in the process and position the employer needs before final selection
  • Bend testing or radiography where the project requires it
  • Able to read fabrication drawings and welding symbols
  • Hot work safety awareness: permits, fire watch and fume control
  • Valid passport
  • Medically fit for overseas employment

Preferred skills

  • Aluminium TIG
  • Aluminium MIG
  • AC and pulse welding
  • Distortion control
  • Marine fabrication
  • Thin-sheet welding
  • Joint cleaning
  • Alloy knowledge

About the work

Aluminium conducts heat quickly, melts at a much lower point than steel and warps easily. You will use TIG (tungsten inert gas, also called GTAW) and MIG (metal inert gas, also called GMAW) with alternating current or pulse settings, and plan each weld to keep distortion down. The employer expects clean joints, controlled heat and no porosity.

Ideal candidate

You are a skilled welder who understands how aluminium behaves and plans before striking an arc. You keep your tools clean and work with a light, steady hand.
