“… do not sit idle; awake, arise, and stop not till the goal is reached.”
Swami Vivekananda, “The Vedanta”, lecture at Lahore, 12 November 1897
Most people who fly to Dubai to look for work do it on a tourist visa, because it is the visa they know. Fewer know that the UAE created a visa specifically for looking for work: no sponsor, no host, up to four months, designed for the exact thing a tourist visa was never meant for. It is not for everyone, and the eligibility rules shut out a lot of people who assume they qualify. For those who do, it is the right tool.

What the job seeker visa is
The job seeker visa arrived with the UAE's 2022 visa reforms. It lets an eligible person enter the country to look for work, attend interviews and meet employers, without needing a company, hotel or relative in the UAE to sponsor them. It is issued for 60, 90 or 120 days, and it is single entry: leave the country and the visa ends.
That last point catches people out. Some tourist visas allow several entries; the job seeker visa does not, so a job seeker who flies home for a family wedding has used up the visa. Plan the whole search as one continuous stay.
Who qualifies
The eligibility is the part most people get wrong. According to the UAE government, an applicant must fall into one of two groups, and must hold a bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- Skilled professionals classified in the first, second or third skill level of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation. Broadly, level one covers managers and executives, level two professionals in scientific, technical and human fields, and level three technicians and associate professionals.
- Recent graduates of one of the world's top 500 universities, as ranked for the purpose by the UAE Ministry of Education, who graduated within the last two years.
Applicants also have to meet a financial requirement, a deposit or proof of funds that the official page requires but does not price. In practice this means the visa suits graduates and experienced professionals, and it is not designed for someone without a degree looking for work in a trade.

What it costs
The UAE government page does not publish the fee, and figures circulating online disagree. The National reported in October 2025 that the total, including a refundable deposit of AED 1,025, came to about AED 1,555 for 60 days, AED 1,675 for 90 days and AED 1,795 for 120 days. Treat those as a guide and confirm the current amount with ICP or GDRFA Dubai before you apply, because the deposit and fees may have changed since.
The visa is only the first cost. Rent, food and transport for two to four months are the real expense, and our breakdown of what a Dubai job hunt costs puts a monthly figure on them.
How to apply
- Check your eligibility honestly against the two groups above. An application that does not meet them wastes the fee and time.
- Get your degree attested. The application needs an attested degree certificate. Our guide to attestation explains which kind the UAE needs and how long it takes.
- Prepare the rest: a passport valid for at least six months and a photograph, plus whatever the financial requirement asks for at the time you apply.
- Apply through GDRFA Dubai or ICP, the two authorities that issue it, directly through their online services.
- Plan the search before you fly. A 60-day clock runs out fast. Line up applications, update your CV, and know which employers you want to meet in the first week.
Is it worth it?
For the right person, yes. A software engineer, an accountant or a civil engineer with a strong CV, some savings and a few contacts in the city can do well with 90 days of in-person meetings. The visa removes the awkwardness of job hunting on a tourist visa and gives a clear legal basis for being there to look.
Whoever you are, treat the first week as the most valuable. Employers who want to meet you will want to do it soon after you land, and a visa that began with interviews already booked goes much further than one that began with a search for somewhere to stay.
For others, the honest answer is different. If you do not hold a degree, you will not qualify, and a tourist visa is not a substitute, because it does not let you work either. If your savings would run out in a month, applying from India to a real vacancy is the safer route, because you carry no living costs while you wait.
Where Disha fits, honestly
We do not apply for job seeker visas, and we would not tell you that you need us to. The application goes directly to GDRFA or ICP.
What we offer is the other route: applying from India to roles an employer has already opened, with the work permit issued before you travel. Many of the professionals who could use a job seeker visa, engineers and senior tradespeople especially, can also be hired that way without carrying months of Dubai rent. The UAE roles we recruit for are listed with the employer's terms.
Would you rather apply from India?
Tell us your qualification and experience. We will tell you which UAE openings fit and how long the lawful route takes.
Frequently asked questions
What is the UAE job seeker visa?
A single-entry visa introduced in the UAE's 2022 visa reforms that lets eligible people enter for 60, 90 or 120 days to look for work, without a sponsor or host in the country. It lets you attend interviews and meet employers, but not work.
Who is eligible for the UAE job seeker visa?
Degree holders classified in the labour ministry's first, second or third skill level, or graduates of one of the world's top 500 universities within the last two years. Applicants must also meet a financial requirement. It is not designed for people without a degree.
How much does the UAE job seeker visa cost?
The official page does not publish it. The National reported in October 2025 totals of about AED 1,555, AED 1,675 and AED 1,795 for 60, 90 and 120 days, including a refundable deposit of AED 1,025. Confirm the current figure with ICP or GDRFA Dubai.
Can I work on a job seeker visa?
No. It lets you look for work only. When you are hired, the employer applies for your work permit and your status is changed to resident. Starting work before the permit is issued is unlawful.
Is a job seeker visa better than a tourist visa for finding a job?
If you qualify, yes: it is made for the purpose, needs no sponsor and allows up to 120 days. But it is single entry and limited to degree holders, and neither visa lets you work until an employer's permit is issued.
